Selecting a roofing contractor is an important step to a homeowner in properly determining problems with an existing roof, whether repairs need to be made, the nature and extent of those repairs, and when replacement of a roof system is the best option. Homeowners should be cautious when contracting to have work done on their roof because if work is not properly completed or if problems occur, the homeowner’s only recourse is against the roofing contractor and that recourse will depend on the terms of the contract entered into with that roofing contractor. Because the roofer you choose is more important than the roofing material you choose, we suggest that you consider the following factors and ask the following questions when selecting your roofing contractor:

 Are you licensed?
 Are you insured?
 Are you bonded?
 Do you carry workers compensation insurance?
 How many years have you been in the roofing business?
 Who can I call as references?
 Where can I see some samples of your work?
 How long do you warrant your work?
 Do you provide a written warranty?
 Who do you bank with?
 Can I call your bank for a credit reference?
